Obadiah Summary

Obadiah

Edom will be destroyed with no survivors for their pride and violence done to Edom. They did nothing while Jerusalem was destroyed, and they even participated. Edom's allies will drive her to her border, and those who eat her bread will set a trap beneath her. The day of the LORD is near upon all the nations. As Edom have drunk on His holy mountain, all nations shall drink continually. Esau will be a stubble consumed by the fire of Jacob and the flame of Joseph. Jacob shall possess their own possessions, the Negeb shall possess Mount Esau, Sephelah the land of the Philistines and Ephraim and Samaria, Benjamin Gilead, the exiles of this host of the people of Israel the land of the Canaanites as far as Zarephath, and the exiles of Jerusalem in Sepharad the cities of the Negeb.

The vision of Obadiah.

The Lord GOD tells Edom she will be made small among the nations and the pride of her heart has deceived her. Thieves would only steal enough for themselves! Her allies drove her to her border, and those who eat her bread have set a trap beneath her. On that day, the LORD will destroy her wise men, dismay Teman's mighty men, and slaughter every man from Mount Esau.

Because of the violence done to Edom's brother Jacob, Edom shall be cut off forever. Edom stood aloof as strangers carried off his wealth, foreigners entered his gates and cast lots for Jerusalem, and Edom was like one of them. Do not gloat over Judah's ruin. Do not enter His people's gates, gloat over their calamity, loot his wealth, stand at the crossroads to cut off his fugitives, or hand over his survivors.

The day of the LORD is near upon all the nations. "As you have done, it shall be done to you; your deeds shall return on your own head." As Edom have drunk on His holy mountain, so all the nations shall drink continually and be as though they had never been. In Mount Zion, there shall be those who escape. It shall be holy. The house of Jacob shall possess their own possessions. The house of Jacob shall be a fire, the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau a stubble. They shall burn them and consume them. The house of Esau shall have no survivor.

Those of the Negeb shall possess Mount Esau, and those of the Shephelah shall possess the land of the Philistines, the land of Ephraim, and the land of Samaria. Benjamin shall possess Gilead. The exiles of this host of the people of Israel shall possess the land of the Canaanites as far as Zarephath. The exiles of Jerusalem who are in Sepharad shall possess the cities of the Negeb. Saviors shall go up to Mount Zion to rule Mount Esau, and the kingdom shall be the LORD's.
